The beginnings of a plan

DH and I have talked for years (and years and years) about eventually leaving southern California for somewhere north, and not *in* California. Lots of potential places have been bandied about, from the South Pacific (no Internet access) to Alaska (no symphony) to the Pacific Northwest to Colorado to the east coast, yet we haven’t actually done anything but talk and look at a few web sites.

Last night, however, we decided that either February 2006 or February 2007 will find us spending the month in New England, probably mostly in and around New Hampshire. We need to see what it’s like to live there, for a little piece of the year, in a real apartment or house in a real community, where we can investigate the local flora, fauna, pubs, weather, and other important things. If we pass the winter test (mostly if *I* pass the winter test LOL ) we’ll go back in the height of summer, so see how we fare.

We have friends who plan on retiring to New Hampshire, and even know the town they want to live in. We’re going to see if we can get them to at least spend a week or two out there with us, show us around, etc. He’s from that area, and talks funny, so he’ll fit right in!

I’m so excited I can hardly stand it. We still haven’t actually *done* anything, but there’s the beginnings of a real plan. Woohoo!
