Children’s books July 21, 2005
With J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince making its
sensational debut last weekend I started thinking about children’s books. There have been a lot of wonderful ones over the years, The Cat in the Hat, Where the Wild Things Are, Bambi, the Mother Westwind stories, the Chronicles of Narnia, the Chronicles of Prydain, Nancy Drew, and on and on.
- As an adult, do you own children’s books? I have some. Dave has a ton. Most of the ones I had as a kid got given away.
- If you do, do you still read them even when there are no children around? I re-read the Chronicles of Narnia a few years back. I inherited a set of them from my cousin when he died, and it took me a while to get to them.
- What were your favorites as a child? Now? I think my favorites when I was a kid were the Chronicles of Prydain books. I loved Taran. Had a big old crush on him. What’s funny is that I don’t even really remember what the stories were about, just that they were fantasy and had lots of magic in them. Guess I still love to read about magic, since I’ve devoured all of the Harry Potter books except the latest one… And it won’t be long until I start that. It’s waiting in the wings. I’m almost done with my current read. Probably finish it later today. Might even get to start reading about the half-blood prince tonight. I hope.

Gosh I loved those too - and I’d forgotten completely about them. I can’t remember what they were about either, but I can picture one of the jackets vividly!
