Santa’s face

Well, I’ve been stitching away at the Santa stocking for Dave, and I ran into a major skin-color glitch. I stitched up Santa’s forehead using the colors that were called for, and it looked awful. We both hated it. Argh. So, I let it stew for a bit, while I stitched more of his hair and mustache. Then yesterday afternoon I sat down with my pattern, the old colors, and my DMC thread color sample book. I pulled different colors for everything, including his cheeks—which I hadn’t stitched yet, but clearly needed less vivid colors—and proceeded to frog all the forehead stitches I’d already put in. Then I started stitching with the new colors. It’s still kind of hard to tell, but I think these colors are going to work out a lot better. The darker lines are wrinkles, and were quite dark with the original set of colors, didn’t look good at all. So, here’s hoping that I won’t have to frog his face again later! I wish I’d taken a picture of his face before I frogged it so you could see the original colors. Ah well.
