First sock

Saturday, July 9, 2005

I have the first sock done. And it fits! I was worried for a bit that it would be too long (not tough, I have short feet), but it’s exactly the correct length. Yippee! Have already started casting on for the second sock.

Thrive on neglect?

Saturday, July 9, 2005

I have two orchid plants. Have had them for quite a while. Neither of them has bloomed in years. They were both starting to look pretty peaked, so I gave them up as goners. Put them on the deck outside the living room where a couple other poor souls have been resting. They got water… […]

Knitting & stuff

Friday, July 8, 2005

Haven’t gotten as much knitting done on my sock this week as I’d hoped. I’m still plugging away at it. Have high hopes of finishing up the first one this weekend, though. I’m loving the way it’s turning out so far. I’ve managed to shove my foot into it a couple of times, just to […]

Coffee table books

Thursday, July 7, 2005

My own personal definition of a coffee table book is a book that is large, over-sized, has lots of pictures, is about a specific theme (e.g., Georgia O’Keeffe’s 100 Flowers, steeple chasing, Disney Animation, the Golden Gate Bridge, etc.) and generally speaking not something that most people would sit down and read in an afternoon. […]

Contractors!

Thursday, July 7, 2005

Just got a call from the sub. They can’t do anything else until the scaffolding’s up. But, unlike what they told us two weeks ago, they don’t own scaffolding, have to rent it. And they don’t have it arranged with anyone yet! ARRGGH!

So, my roses are laying on the ground on top of the philodendron, […]

Scaffolding?

Wednesday, July 6, 2005

Two guys showed up half an hour early today, and started power washing the house. Not a stick of scaffolding in sight all day. Nor was the subcontractor in attendance, as he was supposed to be. All strange. But, progress was made. They have the front of the house mostly prepared, even as far as […]

Speaking of evenweave

Wednesday, July 6, 2005

Do you think that you stitch neater on Evenweave than you do on Aida cloth? If so, why?
No, I don’t. In fact, I think it may be the other way around for me. Once I discovered evenweave, I found that I detested stitching on Aida. Since it’s unpleasant for me, I’m more careless with […]

Scaffolding to begin

Wednesday, July 6, 2005

The contractor’s supposed to be here at 10 this morning to start scaffolding our house so it can be painted. This ought to be interesting… We both work at home, so the next two weeks will be a little hectic or weird or something. And yes, our house definitely needs to be scaffolded to get […]

First sock pic

Tuesday, July 5, 2005

I knitted madly most of the weekend, and have the greater part of a sock to show for it. I usually scrunch my socks down around my ankles anyway, so I opted out of the ribbing at the top, and knit a picot trim instead. I’m also using a different heel than shown on Knit […]

Patriotism

Sunday, July 3, 2005

“When a whole nation is roaring Patriotism at the top of its voice, I am fain to explore the cleanness of its hands and purity of its heart.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

What do you like the best about living in the United States? The freedom to make our own lives what we want them to be.
What […]
