Large and small

What’s the largest project you’ve ever done? What’s the smallest?

I’ll answer the second question first. The smallest thing I ever stitched was a tiny birth announcement that I did for each of my cousins when their wives had their first babies. I don’t have the dimensions any more, but they were quite small, probably only about two inches across at the most. It was when I first started cross-stitching, and was buying all my supplies and kits at Woolworth in downtown San Francisco. You know, I sometimes still miss that store. It was a great place to go grab a single slice of pizza for lunch, or buy just about anything you wanted. Plus, it was on the corner where the Powell Street cable car turned around on Market Street, so there were always a ton of people milling around.

The biggest? Not sure. I stitched an abbreviated version of Teresa Wentzler’s Birth Announcement for some friends a few years ago. Then TW’s Fruit & Floral Wreath II for Mom (finished this year), and Mirabilia’s Sleeping Beauty. Those were all rather large. And, of course, Lilac Basket is 200 x 130 and is solid stitching. And then there’s Sterling Silver, which isn’t solid stitching but is 197 x 297, so is still fairly large. And then, of course, I’m seriously considering stitching Winding the Skein (see yesterday’s post), which is even bigger, and solid stitching to boot. By the way, I discovered on this one that if I stitch it on 25-count fabby over 1 it will fit on the same frame that I’m stitching Lilac Basket on. Yippee!
