Lamps! August 29, 2005
There’s a lot of cleanup to do now that the painters are gone. A lot of it involves cleaning up old outside light fixtures. Dave spent quite a few hours in the garage this weekend cleaning this one fixture. The difference is amazing, as you can see in the before and after photos. The fixture was
several years old when we bought the house ten years ago, so we’ve never seen it looking so good. It took forever to clean just this one fixture. It’s mate that goes on the other side of the garage doors is still in the garage and awful looking. Let’s see, he used Brasso to get a lot of the ick off, rubbed all the pieces down with steel wool, then hit them with the buffing wheel. Then I washed and dried them (I also washed the glass pieces and scraped paint off of them), and he painted the pieces with a clear lacquer spray paint before reassembling the whole thing, so hopefully it’ll stay this way for a while.
