Hold it! August 31, 2005
What do you use to hold your fabric while you stitch? A hoop, a Q-Snap, a scroll frame, something else, or do you stitch in hand? Have you always used just the one thing or have you tried one or more of the others? Which do you like best? Why?
I grew up using a hoop to do my stitching, so have a bunch of nice old wooden ones, as well as a gorgeous new wooden one that a friend gave to me a year or so ago. Currently, however, all three of my stitching projects are on scroll frames. I have a trio of frames with that velcro-stuff on them, so I don’t have to baste. I love them. I also have a couple of large frames that I got at yard sales over the years that require basting. These actually get used occasionally, too. I tried stitching in hand a long time ago, but I’m completely inept. I need something solid to hold on to. For a while, I considered trying out q-snaps, but watched the gyrations that a friend was going through with them one day, and the resulting lack of tautness in the fabric, and decided to save my money for other types of stash.

I have really wanted to try a scroll frame, but I would need a pretty large one I think. I see you’re planning on stitching a HAED design; I found out about them 2 weeks ago and now I have 3 patterns with 3 more on the wishlist! It’s going to take forever to stitch even one–what I am thinking ordering more than one :)

Rogue is here: http://www.girlfromauntie.com/ look under patterns for sale(I think). It’s a long pattern but it’s not that hard if you take it piece by piece–this is my second Rogue :)
