A new play
Friday was opening night for Johnna’s play, Sacred Geometry. This is definitely not a play for minors. There is full male nudity, so be advised. But, it’s entertaining, fun, funny, and strange. And there’s an act where the audience is broken into groups, and tours the entire place, inside and out, to see separate vignettes. It’s during this act where the movie filmed at my house is aired. The theater, The Rude Guerilla, is in an area of Santa Ana that is being revitalized, and there’s free off-street parking just a couple short blocks away. If you enjoy having your psyche stretched a bit in an off-kilter sort of way, I definitely recommend this play. Here’s the official blurb:
The Sacred Geometry of [bleep] by Johnna Adams. World Premiere! A troubled young man with a stack of dirty magazines; a woman raised from the dead isn’t sure she likes her new “life”; a televangelist faces down a drinking problem; a disgruntled girl picks up a gun; an assassination plot; weird sex, a whole lotta money and a new religion.
Since this was the play’s world premier the champagne was flowing all evening, and there were plenty of cheese, crackers, and fruit to be had at the party following. We had fun seeing some of our new friends that we met at the shoot, and meeting most of the actors and actresses in the play. Dave got to talking with the director, Dave Barton, and he just might start spending quite a few of his evenings and weekends down at the theater. My Dave was involved in community theater when he lived in Midland, Texas a million years ago, and has missed it ever since. Who knows. A month from now I might have to go to the theater in order to see him! But I digress.
After a while the small party migrated around the corner to a little restaurant, where more serious food and drink were consumed by most (not so much by us, we only had a beer each). It was a fun evening, start to finish. The only rough part was that we didn’t get home until nearly 2:30 a.m. Egads.
Saturday was a waste, as I’m sure you can imagine. We were beat, and didn’t really get anything accomplished. Big surprise.
Dancing
But then Saturday evening we were invited to a friend’s house. They’re into Morris Dancing, an old English country form of dance. And they were putting up some of their English Morris dancing friends for the weekend. So, naturally, we had to go hang out for a while. It’s always fun connecting with folks from other countries, especially when they sort of speak the same language that we do. They all talked funny, being from the U.K., but I’m sure they felt the same way about us. A great group of folks. But another late night. We didn’t get home until nearly 1 a.m.
Recovery
Two nights in a row home after midnight. I need a week to recover! But instead, we did the usual grocery shopping thing, laundry, blah, blah, blah. Oh, but the seasons first Granny Smith apples were at the store, so I had to get some and make a pie. I got a late start on the pie. It didn’t even go into the oven until 6:30. I tried a new thing with the crust. We have friends who swear the only way to do a pie crust is with a food processor, so Dave dug out the directions. After I had the apples all ready, I studied up, prepared my ingredients, and dove in. Wow. Is that fast! And the crust came out light and flaky. Okay. I’m a convert. Guess I won’t be using Grandma’s pastry cutter much any more after this.
