I’m back

Well, pretty much. We’re home from Las Vegas. Had a wonderful time. It went by way too fast, though. Could have used at least another week… Unlike last year, the drive out and back was completely uneventful. Phew. Last year was a bit scary at one point, when a car traveling in the opposite direction decided that the road was too restrictive, and that flying end-over-end through the air toward oncoming traffic was to be attempted. Eek! The amazing thing is that the car acrobatics actually stopped on that nice wide median before the vehicle slammed into oncoming traffic. Thank goodness. I felt like a rabbit caught in someone’s headlights, watching that vehicle come crashing towards me at a high velocity. Talk about frightening. It took a while for my adrenaline and heartbeat to settle down again. I think the other drivers going my way all felt about the same way. We all basically froze in stunned disbelief, then as one we all moved one lane to the right to get out of the way. Luckily, there’s a nice wide shoulder there, so there was plenty of room. There was also a semi going in our direction who got on the radio to call for help. He was already on the horn as Dave and I passed him by, so we didn’t stop. There was nothing we could have done or added that the trucker wouldn’t handle. The really horrible part, for the driver of that acrobatic car, was that we were a good hour’s drive from any kind of civilization in any direction. It was a good half hour before we saw emergency vehicles pass us, going toward the crash. Dave watched for police reports about the accident for several days afterwards, but never saw a thing. Granted, the accident did happen only about half an hour from the Nevada border, but still. Other wrecks out on I-15 get written up. Strange that he didn’t see anything about that one. After all the excitement on the drive last year, we were extra happy to have a completely uneventful drive this year.

I’m not actually supposed to have my computer on yet, since we’re still on vacation until Monday, but it’s 10 p.m., Dave’s fast asleep, and in spite of being dreadfully tired (very little sleep last night), I’m not ready to sleep yet. What’s a girl to do? Why, post in her blog, of course!

I decided at one point while there that Kiri only needed thirteen pattern repeats, so I knit up the border and bound off. Now I wonder if I shouldn’t have done another repeat or two. Wishing I’d put in a lifeline at the end of the thirteenth repeat, but alas, I didn’t. Hopefully it will grow sufficiently when I block it. I hope.

Also got tons done on the Santa stocking for Dave. He’s almost done. I didn’t get any stitching in today, but I’m hoping to tomorrow. I’m thinking that one or two good stitching sessions ought to finish him up. Yippee!

And yes, pictures are coming… of our suite, of Santa, and of Kiri! They photos will be along early in the week.
