Santa stocking is done! November 22, 2005

I stitched madly away at this yesterday, and finished. And Dave loves it. Now, to get lining and backing fabric and to figure out how to make into an actual, usable stocking. I’m not terribly good at sewing, so that’s the tricky part. Even stitching this on a rotation it didn’t take too terribly long. Of course, it’s only as big as it is—about 8w x 14h inches—because I stitched it with three strands over two on 25-count fabric. Them’s big stitches. I think I even know what I’ll stitch next—if it fits on this newly vacated frame, that is.
I didn’t plan on changing anything with this pattern, but Santa’s skin tones were horrid. Too dark. Made him look swarthy or something, which just doesn’t work for someone with blue eyes who spends most of his time at the North Pole. So, I changed all of his skin tones. One other little change. The pattern called for stitching the single-stitch snowflakes with two strands of blending filament and one strand of white floss. Ick. I dug around in my stash, and found some nice thick Ombre in the right sparkly white color, and used that instead. Perfect!
