Do you always sign your projects? If not, why? If so, do you use your first name, initials or what?
I don’t always sign my projects, I almost always sign them. I didn’t sign them at all when I started stitching. In fact, I didn’t sign a thing until I met Dave, and he made me start doing it. He pointed out that it’s really nice to be able to pick up a piece of needlework that I did, or that anyone else did for that matter, and to easily be able to tell when it was stitched and by whom.
This point was driven home to me recently. Some years back my aunt sold her house and moved into a retirement community. When she did that I stitched a couple little guest towels for her for her new place. My aunt died a couple of years ago. Because I signed the towels, my mother new that I was the one who stitched them, and was able to return them to me. When I got them back, it was nice to know how long my aunt got to enjoy them—I know she used them, as she had them out once when Dave and I visited—as well as how long ago I stitched them. For those curious souls, I stitched them in 1992, and my aunt had them for more than ten years. (Referring back to last week’s question, when I found these patterns I really liked both of them, but the one with the pansies was all the wrong colors for my aunt, so I changed every color when I stitched it except the greens.)
When I sign things I put the date, and either my initials or my first name, if I have room.
