An anniversary December 16, 2005
It’s my parents’ anniversary today. Mom called and talked with Dave last night. She’s all excited. She got a cake, special no-alcohol beer for Dad, invited Dad’s brother and his wife. She’s been telling everyone that they’ve been married 50 years. Um, Dear. Uh, no. Excuse me. I finally got a word in. He finally heard me. He stared at me. They were married in 1956. This is 2005. Dave said that to Mom. There was this long pause on the other end of the line while she digested this piece of news, that in fact, they’ve been married for 49 years… Then she laughed. And laughed. And laughed. And there is the perfect evidence of absolutely my mother’s best personality trait. When she pulls a blunder, she laughs at herself. Long and hard. Several minutes later when they finally hung up, she was still laughing at herself. Isn’t she wonderful?
