Stitching vs. life

How do you balance your stitching time with your other obligations such as work, household chores, etc.?

Up until the beginning of this month when Dave decided he’d had enough of TV again for a while, I had a simple answer to this question. I work at home, so every day I’d cross stitch while watching Perry Mason or Matlock on the tube during my lunch break, maybe knit during the cocktail hour, then back to stitching in front of the tube after dinner…

But now, I’m rather off the whole TV thing, too, and I’m not even getting my lunch hour of cross-stitching in, much less the two or three hours after dinner. Hrmph. So now, when I knit, I’m getting lots more knitting time in than anything, since the cross stitch projects are usually done in front of the TV&not that I can’t take them upstairs and work on them on the couch instead of knitting, but, well, I haven’t done that yet.

The main question after all this is, what do I do (when I’m not knitting) and I have all this time that I’m not in front of the TV? Well, I’m getting a lot of reading done (so is Dave). And we picked up a Scrabble game just after Christmas—before I got sick—with a gift certificate, and we’ll be playing a lot more of that. The board has a lazy susan under it, so we can spin it around on the table, and neither of us has to look at it upside down. Ta da!

Oh yeah, you said something about chores? Well, except for like trying to keep up with the kitchen, which is an amazingly constant chore with both of us working (and eating) at home, most chores just don’t get done around here unless we have company coming. Sad, but true. Oh, but here’s one: laundry. When I have a massive laundry day, like is coming up this weekend if I’m well enough, I cross-stitch and watch movies between loads.
