Sock it to me

I’ve been working merrily along on my purple socks. Finally got the lace pattern worked out. I ended up knitting the “foundation row” only to arrange the stitches on my needles and make sure that I had the right number of stitches, then headed out from there. I knit for a while during the Superbowl. Got to a certain point and decided to try the sock on. So glad I did.

I don’t know if you can really see it, but not only is the shape completely wrong for my toe (it’s fine on the big toe side, but the small toes definitely don’t stick
up that high on my foot), but I could barely get my wide little foot in it, and the stitches are stretched completely out of shape.

Arg.

So, I ripped it out. Again.

I grabbed a completely different sock pattern. This one is one I downloaded from Sock Bug’s blog. It’s the Sheri’s Lace pattern. I have got all of the ribbing done. When I pick the sock up again I’ll do the increase row, then I’ll start the lace. Hopefully, three times will be the charm.

P.S. The pile of crinkly yarn is what I have to knit to catch up with where I was before I ripped it out (again). The bunch that’s wrapped willy nilly around the skein is what I have to knit to catch up with the what I frogged the first time.

Fire update

It’s smoky as all get out around here. Fire engines have been going over the hill all day. We’ve both had to put drops in our eyes to combat the scratchiness from the smoke and ash. But so far the fire is nowhere near us. Hopefully they’ll be able to put it out before it gets worse. You can see the plume of smoke for miles around. I took a couple more photos so you can see how it’s changed. Here’s the view to the east.

And here’s the view to the north-west. The smokes starting to come in our house. I see more eyedrops in my near future.

Moebius update

I have the moebius all blocked. It’s dry and lovely. The yarn is so soft and fluid. And it’s shinier than it was before it was washed. Now just to weave in the ends, take another photo for posterity, and send the scarf off to Mom.

Hope the fires stay far away from you guys and is out soon. Love the purple for the socks.

Glad to see you’re still there and not on fire. It’s a bit close for comfort….

By the way, guess what I’m reading!! LOL! I checked - it’s been nearly 6 years since I last read the Belgariad, so it’s definitely due. I’ve never got as far as the Mallorean though. Have you? Worth getting?

First, stay safe. That fire looks a little too close.

Second, darn that purple yarn–it is being very uncooperative. Just keep telling it that it wants to be lace :)
