Happy birthday, Dad

Yes. It is true. My father was born on Valentine’s Day. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it didn’t bring him some measure of grief when he was a kid. You know how kids can be. By the time I came along he’d learned to roll with it. In fact, Dad’s one of the few people I’ve ever known who always bought presents for other people on his birthday. He always came home from work on Valentine’s Day with chocolates for me and flowers or chocolates for Mom. And cards.

I sent along a card for him over the weekend. It arrived yesterday, and Mom promised to take it to him today when she went to visit. She also printed out and took along a birthday wish from my host parents in Germany. They remembered his birthday! Amazing. After all these years. See? I just knew that they were terrific people.

I bought a pork tenderloin yesterday, and Dave will be cooking it up for our special dinner this evening. My mouth’s been watering all day.

Thank you for the Valentine wishes, Kim. Very sweet of you! I hope you have a wonderful day with your honey and sweet kids. Good wishes to everyone else for a special Valentine’s Day today.

I think this bears repeating: Happy birthday, Dad. I love you.

    a very sweet post ;o)

I always remember my Grandfather being sad on Valentine’s Day :o( He missed my Grandma so much. I didn’t think Valentine’s Day was a happy day until I was at least eight years old.
