Container gardening

Self-wateringI don’t know about you, but I love eating produce that I’ve grown myself in my own yard. The bugaboo is that even though I have a large yard, it’s on the side of a steep hill that’s filled with rocks. Even the few level places there are in my yard are so rocky as to make digging with a regular shovel virtually impossible. Workmen use jack hammers around here when they’re digging to put in the foundation for a new house. Yeah, it’s that bad. I honestly don’t know how the gophers get around, but they’re quite good at it. But I digress. Dave saw an article in the local paper the other day about this book, Incredible Vegetables from Self-Watering Containers: Using Ed’s Amazing POTS System by Edward C. Smith, and suggested I get a copy of it. Ed evidentially goes into detail about the wonderful vegetables you can grow in self-watering pots, and he even tells you how to convert regular containers with a hole in the bottom into self-watering pots. Okay. I’ll bite. I ordered my copy today.

Ooooh, sounds interesting, especially the part about converting regular pots because the auto-watering ones cost a fortune! Let us know how you like it when it arrives, ok?
