Yarn!

I did it! Stone Patch sweaterI finally decided which Kaffe Fassett sweater to knit, and bought the yarn for it today. Woohoo! It was down to two different designs when I went into my local yarn shop, Velona in Anaheim Hills. I love this store. She has so much yarn, it’s absolutely amazing. Awe inspiring, really.

So I went in, waited a few minutes until Rose was done with her current customer, then told her what I wanted to do. I ran out to my car to get my Glorious Knits book, flipped back and forth a couple times between Stone Patch and Large Steps—which I still may make some day—then just decided. There. It’s Stone Patch. We went over to where the bulky Rowan yarns are, and pulled out a bunch. A bunch. Then I read the pattern more closely, and looked at the chart. Hm. Seems not all the yarns are bulkys, there are several weights involved, fifteen colors, and a lot of blending going on. Ooh. Fun. Okay. Here we go. Rose went off and started helping other customers as they came in, checking back with me periodically, while I pulled more yarns, pondered, and made some decisions.
Stone Patch yarn
When I left the store all my birthday/Christmas money was spent, plus a little bit—I plan on selling some old Rowan yarns to try to recoup the difference—and I came home with this glorious sack full of fabulous yarn. Here’s the breakdown: four hanks Rowanspun chunky in dark gray tweed; four hanks Soho Tweed from Tahki in an olive tweed (the only non-Rowan in the batch); one ball Yorkshire Tweed chunky in a gray/blue; two balls Kid Classic (yum!) in olive; two hanks Rowanspun DK one in gray tweed, the other in navy tweed; five balls Cotton Chenille, one burgundy, one navy, one medium gray-blue, and two eggplant; and twenty-one balls of Yorkshire Tweed, six in an off-white tweed, six a light olive-tweed, four a kind of dark red tweed, three a dark plum tweed, and two a medium blue tweed.

I’m so excited I could spit. But I won’t. I want to start knitting, like, yesterday. I need to get some of the hanks wound into balls first, as the first colors I knit are all in hanks. Then I get to swatch it. Hm. Soon, soon!

Why, Miss Laura, I’m so excited to find that we are practically neighbors! I live in Anaheim, as well. I only discovered your blog recently, but I’m enjoying following along. And I’m both impressed and terrified by that Kafe Fassett knit. Quite an undertaking! My biggest challenge so far was a baby sweater. ;)

Have a wonderful weekend. Can’t wait to see progress on your (destined to be) gorgeous sweater.

Oh wow! I’m so impressed with anyone who can knit in more than one colour (LOL!), and this just looks stunning. It’s going to be gorgeous! Really looking forward to seeing progress :)
