Project Spectrum: May! May 2, 2006
It’s May. That means that the awful yellow/orange month is over, and we’re into the fabulous green month of May. Woohoo! If you hadn’t already guessed by the color of my blog, my board, and my online store, yes, I do like the color green. In fact, the walls of my home office are green, too, as is the little powder room upstairs. And my big old couch that I inherited from my grandmother (photo coming another day), and a whole host of other things.
This dragon picture is by one of our favorite local artists, Robert Marble, who is also a friend. The picture is called Face Your Fears. The bear, coyote, and turtle are scared to death of this big ole mean dragon. But it turns out that he’s a fake, a blow up, and the little red bird is having his joke… He’s got the air pump back there, and is still working on inflating the fake dragon.
The vase is from a girlfriend. It was a special gift, to be displayed in my (then) newly painted green office. I love it. The color’s a perfect complement to the walls, and I love that it’s from Dian.
Mom first showed me a photo of this painting that was in a magazine. She cut it out for me, and though small, I had it on my wall for years. Then when I was in college,
I found a poster-size print of it, which I bought immediately. I didn’t have much money, so I couldn’t afford a proper frame job for it. There it sits, on its warping foam core in an inexpensive oak frame. But I still love it. It’s mostly green, which means that Dave hates it (he abhors green), so it lives here on the wall in my home office. This is fine with me. I get to see it all day every day this way, and when I take the time to sit and really look at it, it never fails to please me. Even after all these years. The only thing is that I have no idea any more who painted it. I know I knew at one time. I’ve sent a note off to Mom to see if she remembers.
Obviously,
my cat is not green. Her beautiful green eyes are hidden right now, but that’s okay. She was in such a cute pose that I couldn’t resist taking her picture and sharing it. You might be able to tell that the wall behind her is green, however. And the trees down below are green, but a bit foggy so far today.
Edited to add: Mom found it! My painting, Flowers on the Windowsill, is by Swedish painter Carl Larsson. The original painting is a watercolor, and is in a book, “Ett hem” (A Home), that Larsson first published in 1899. Ooh, it’d be wonderful to have a copy of that book. Wow. They say that the girl in the picture is Carl’s oldest daughter, Suzanne. Neat.
