Ringing

  1. Have you read Lord of the Rings? Sure have.
  2. If so, how many times have you read it? Just once? Or so many you can’t count? Neither. I’ve read it twice. I found the book, The Hobbit, when
I was in junior high. Loved it. The Lord of the Rings must have been lent to someone else—I’m sure they had it—as I didn’t see it in the library. My high school sophomore English teacher gave us three weeks to read The Fellowship of the Ring, and write a book report on it. Some of my classmates struggled through that first book, and barely finished in time. I finished it before the first week was out, and went looking for the next two books. My teacher noticed I was on the second book already, talked to me about it a bit, and greatly surprised me by loaning me her personal hard cover copy of books two and three. Wow! I took such good care of those books for her. And it was such a joy reading the rest of the story out of nicely published books instead of the cheap paperback copies I had.

The next time I read The Lord of the Rings was when I heard that the new movies
were being worked on, and that this time they were supposed to be well produced and acted, unlike previous versions. This time I got to read the stories (I started with The Hobbit again) in beautiful leather-bound books. It made the whole thing that much better.

  3. And, while we’re on the subject, did you see the Oscar-winning movie(s)? What did you think? I most certainly did. I love the new movies.
