Buttons

I finished the knitting part of my Stone Patch sweater in late July. Since then it’s been a very sad, button-less sweater. While Mom was here, it wasn’t hard at all to talk her into going over to Velona to help me pick out buttons—when she used to sew when I was a kid, I think this was one of her favorite parts. Mom had never been in Velona before. She immediately recognized how dangerous a place it is. We did manage to concentrate on the buttons long enough to pick some out. We then widdled the selections down to three totally different buttons. One button was a bronze color with a nifty woven design in the middle, another was a tri-colored button with three stripes, one each black, dark blue, and purple, each color fading into the one next to it. Totally cool button. And these. Stone Patch buttonsI think they’re pewter… some metal, anyway. We couldn’t decide. Mom really liked the bronze ones. I was leaning toward the tri-color ones, but really liked these pewter ones, too. We got Rose’s attention, and asked her opinion. The bronze was too bright, distracting. The tri-color was too busy. She thought these were just right, definitely there, not distracting, interesting on their own, but not attention grabbing. I loved how she gave reasons for each. Sold!

Remember this pile of untouched yarn that I had left over after knitting Stone Patch? Well… I pleaded, wheedled, cajoled asked if I could return it for a store credit. She said yes! Woohoo! So I ended up getting my buttons with no cash out of pocket, and I have a sizeable credit left. (Evil grin.) I’m already plotting and planning what to do with that credit. I want new yarn, obviously. If I’m thrifty, I may be able to get a couple sweaters worth of yarn, or maybe a sweater, some socks, and a shawl, or some needles, or…
