The blue shawl

I’m Lily Chin shawl pic 1not sure how Deb did it. It’s not like she was sitting there saying, “Laura, you should block that shawl.” She didn’t even know it existed for goodness sakes.

But she managed it.

I think she managed it by blocking the second half of her gorgeous Peacock Lace wrap. Not that this simple thing compares with that elegant stole, in any way but one: they’re both lace. But that’s like saying a biplane and the B1 Bomber are the same because they’re both airplanes.

See? It’s on the bed, all pinned out and ready to dry.

Dry. That describes this shawl in everything but color.

I love the yarn. It’s a rich, vibrant blue. It’s much more sapphirine in person than it looks on my monitor. The photos don’t do the color justice.

But the pattern. Ugh. When I was knitting it, I got to a point when I thought I’d be knitting it for the rest of my life. Boring. How can lace be boring? When it’s the same two rows, over and over and over and over and over. And one of those two rows is a simple purl row across the back.

I’ve knitted whole sweaters in stockinette and not been so bored. Why is that?

I have no idea, but it’s true.

I was so bored by the time that I decided I was done that I didn’t block it. It’s probably been four years since I finished knitting it. Oh, I know… I started knitting it opening night of The Return of the King. How long ago was that? Well, that summer is when I knit this thing.

Maybe I’ll like it better once it’s dry and actually looks like something besides a tangle of yarn.

Pattern: a freebie—by Lily Chin—with yarn purchase from Patternworks, but it was so long ago that I doubt that they even have the pattern any longer.
Yarn: Brown Sheep cotton fine.

How’s that for irony? Just so happens I was asking someone about the very same thing. I suppose it isn’t all that important with smallish, feathery type scarves though is it?
And do I need to create something to pin with/to? (It must be horrid answering such “beginner questions” for you… *blush
That blue is so gorgeous. and the pattern itself looks wonderful. You did such a great job!
