Lilac Basket
Why does it never feel like
I make any progress? And this week, it doesn’t even look like it to me. Arg. I’ve started on chart two. Woohoo! You can see my latest progress over there at the top right. The top part of the chart isn’t as fussy, lots of open space, straight stitching. Easy stuff. So, why isn’t more done? It’s a mystery.
Mountain Peaks
I knit like a demon on my shawl this weekend. Got the pesky corner mastered, third time’s a charm, and continued on up the other side. I knit six
repetitions of the border motif, and have six more to go. You can see the bite out of the shawl… that’s where the missing motifs will go.

It’s just magical to me how you knit along and suddenly, poof!, you have a ninety degree corner. Awe inspiring. Knit stitches are so smart. They know exactly what to do.
Since I love looking at close-ups of other peoples’ knitting in their blogs, here’s one for you. I got down fairly low with the camera, and took a side shot. You can sort of see where the lacey peaks point up somewhere inland from the edge. Totally cool.

Another lap blanket
As if I didn’t have enough knitting projects lined up, I’ve committed to turning this pile of blue odds and ends into a lap blanket for Dave. We talked vaguely of a pattern, and he doesn’t want anything as Mondrian as mine. Hm. Perhaps a simple quilt-like pattern? We’d talked about this sort of thing before. Here’s where I put my money where my mouth is, so to speak. I’m thinking about making a knit (garter stitch)
version of a colorful pinwheel pattern. We’ll see if I can figure this out.
These yarns are all either Reynolds’ Kitten or Brunswick’s Windmist. Both types are all (or mostly) acrylic, and go in the washer and dryer like a dream. These balls are left overs from other projects I did, years ago—all afghans. Let’s see… There are four blues, peacock, purple, and white. Several of the blues are from a granny hexagon afghan I made for a friend (he bought the yarn and took me to dinner when it was done—he wanted to pay me cash monies, but I was a starving student back then, and never got to eat at a real restaurant, so that’s what I wanted), a peacock colored ripple I crocheted for Mom, and a blue, tan, and white afghan I made for myself. I don’t know where the lef-over black and tan yarns are, they weren’t in the basket with these. I assume there’s some of those two colors left, too, somewhere around here. I may have to dig around for that black. It’d work well with these colors, and provide additional dimension.
Red sweater knit along

That Mountain Peaks shawl is looking fantastic! I love that pattern.
A few issues ago there was a quilt style knit lap blanket in Interweave knits, based on an amish quilt, I believe. It was just beautiful. I think you’ve got a good idea there!

~the shawl makes me think of the forest with the moss covered trees and *sigh, a very nice place.

I can’t wait to see your Mountain Peaks Shawl finished & blocking. You take great pictures.
Any tips to share on the 90 degree corner turning? Or how much yarn you used for the body vs. what you’re using for the edging? I’ve got 660 yards of yarn that I’m considering for this shawl, & Mim’s pattern says 600, but with so many stories of people running short, I’m a bit nervous about going with only 660 yards.
