The red sweater November 6, 2006
I took my knitting over to the window
, like I always do because the light’s better over there. I was snapping away, looked up, and look who I saw. She’s a marvelous helper. I love the expression on her pretty face… “What are you doing, Mom. That camera isn’t going to flash in my face and make those spots in front of my eyes again, is it?”
I’m not at home. I’m typing this from the local senior center where I’m filling in for Dave this morning. He has a volunteer position here, Monday mornings, helping out in the computer lab. He’s swamped, so I’m here in his stead. I think this keyboard will be the death of me. Every time I try to hit the backspace key, I get a back slash (\) instead. Arg. Other than that, it’s kind of cool. Right now I have a column of older gentlemen sitting quietly at their computers, not needing any help at all, which is why I have this time to write in my blog. My presence here instead of at home also explains why my images aren’t as compact as I normally like to make them. They don’t have the same software here that I use at home, and I can’t figure out how to get the compression and image size I want.
Anyway… On to knitting…

Remember how my decreases looked kind of funny, too steep an angle maybe? Well, I decided to frog the sweater back to the first decrease row. I had all of the stitches off of the needles, and on a whim tried the sweater on again. It fit fine! Pretty good, actually. I put the stitches back on the needles without frogging, and continued knitting. I knit a couple of inches, then started a gentle increase—two stitches on either side every sixth row. We’ll see how it goes. I might yet rip this thing out to the beginning of the decreases. But then again, I might not have to. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
