It’s beginning to look…

Charged

My camera battery Wirewent kaput. Twelve months, two weeks after purchase. For the last week I’ve had to drag the cord around, able only to take pictures when the thing was actually plugged into the wall. I found a new battery on eBay late last week—it’s truly amazing what can be had there—for less than half the cost of the one I bought last year (thank goodness), and it arrived with this afternoon’s mail. It’s charging even as we speak, er, as I type. Yahoozie.

I realized recently that it’s been simply ages since I gave you a progress picture of Lilac Basket. What’s with that? I’ve no idea. Lilac Basket 2006-11-27Sorry about that.

Here’s my latest progress. I’ve stitched all the way to the right edge of the piece. You can now see how wide the thing is. By the ruler it’s twelve and five-sixteenths inches wide and (so far) five and three-eighths inches high. See that large gap over on the far right, under the pale gold, and above the barely darker gold? That entire area will be filled with the pale gold color. Good for mindless stitching. Too good for it. I’m employing the old “stitch one needle-full of this color, for a needle-full of that” trick in order to make progress on that area at all. It’s working. See? I already have one thousand pale gold stitches stitched. There are only about seven hundred left to do. In that color block. The good news is that below that, though it’s still pale gold, there are four different shades involved, so the stitching is a bit more interesting. Just a bit. I’ll admit to some relief when this area is done.

Finished!

Yup. Red gable 2006-11-27 - Done! It’s done. The red Green Gable sweater is done. I even steam-blocked it yesterday with the loan of my neighbor’s nifty steamer. I’ll post more about my finish over on the Red Sweater KAL site when I’m done here. And the sweater will end up in my gallery, too, so be sure to check there as well.

Pattern: Green Gable from Zephyr Style
Yarn: Magic by Bergere de France, 100% merino wool
Needles: Addi Turbos, US sizes 3 and 5

P.S. There’s a photo of my latest lap blanket in the gallery, too.

Since my red sweater and the lap blanket are done I’ve gotten a little bit of progress made on my second Errant Ankles sock, my only other knitting work in progress. Sorry, no photo of this today. I’ll work on it until I either figure out yarn from my stash or get a little something to start my Christmas obligation knitting with. Knit on.

A little like Christmas

I, Laura, am a dish ho. Spode plates 2I can’t go past the china department in any store without my heart going pity-pat, and Dave grabbing my arm, pulling in the opposite direction of said department, and saying, Oh no you don’t. LOL But seriously folks. I do love dishes. And. Well. I have a few of them. Here and there in the house. But I only have one set of china so far—the rest are stoneware, Bauer, depression glass… And since the one set of china has Christmas trees on it, I only use it one month (or so) out of each year. This year, since we’re having company for Christmas, it’s all coming out. I made a start on it over the weekend. I always like to start pulling out my Spode for Thanksgiving, because, well… It is much nicer to eat a nice Thanksgiving dinner on china than off of the regular, every day dishes. I think so, any way. Spode plates

Lest you think that these are all of the Spode Christmas Tree dishes I have, let me reassure you. They are not. At the time of this photo shoot, a few were in the cupboard already, and some were in the dishwasher. The rest are serving pieces—and a tea kettle—most of which are still in storage down in the laundry room. I’ll get them out later, closer to Christmas. When it’s just Dave and I, we don’t have much use for serving pieces. But we do use the baking dishes once in a while, so the oval one is out. And, well, some of the serving pieces are out. They got used on Thanksgiving. Yes, you do see there quite the stack of salad plates. I have a quota to go along with the dinner plates, plus… well, I also have quite a few of the year plates, and the first three of the Santa plates. I haven’t been able to collect these since 2001, so I’m a bit behind. Perhaps I’ll be able to start getting caught up next year. Dave always hopes that there’s an end in sight. No such luck. I’m just on hold until I can justify the cost of buying them again. Tee hee.

Just to show what a perfect man I married, he bought a significant number of these charming dishes for me, feeding my collection little by little over the years, while complaining very little about how much room they take up or how much they weigh.

I think I’ll keep him.

I love dishes too! Antique or new ones, and I feel like I have to collect mostly every dish/bowl/cup in the set. Do you have this problem too? I’m dying for the soup tureen to my china (Baronesse White is the name). And for the most part, I don’t really like soup! LOL

I have a thing for green depression glass, and green glass that looks like depression glass. When Ria was here in September, we stopped at a huge antique mall where I picked up an 8 place setting (dinner plates, dessert plates, bowls) of some lovely green glass. I guess it’s from the late 30′/early 40’s. Kinda swirly, very pretty. For about 75 cents a piece!
