Brown recluse December 14, 2006
It’s done. The brown dickey has been knit. It needs only to have its ends woven in and to be blocked. But all the blocking in
the world isn’t going to make it right. I can’t give this thing to my uncle. Waaaaa. The fabric is soft and drapey, and doesn’t hold its shape, and as if that wasn’t enough, the neckline is still way too wide. I’m sure it’d be fine if the yarn had more stretch to it, like a nice wool or something instead of this 100% cotton that just hangs there.
The question now is: do I use the other two balls for something else for my uncle, or go try to find a more suitable yarn for this pattern for him, remembering that he can’t wear animal fibers any more than my mother can, and is also sensitive to some acrylics!
Such people in my life. I swear.
While I’m deciding what to do about him, I think I’ll start the smoke ring for Mom.
The secret project got pretty far yesterday. As you can see here. I decided to fudge the missing stitches, one on the front of the piece, two on the back. So there.
My hands are sore and achy from all the knitting I did yesterday. They’re not used to being that busy.
I’m going back to my knitting soon, but thought I’d share this little bit with you first. I was reading Cosmic Pluto’s blog this morning, and saw that she’d recently gotten some yarn from Elann. I made the mistake of wandering over there, and saw this gorgeous shawl. The pattern’s even free, just sitting there on this page. The yarn isn’t even expensive when you get it from them, under $30 for the whole thing. I love it! The picot edging is fabulous, too. Man. I’m sunk.
