Cat’s Cradle nearly done December 18, 2006
Still knitting furiously. I haven’t figured out yet what to do about the knitting disaster project for my uncle, but I am nearly done with the scarf for his wife.
I tried the suggested “loose” bind off in the pattern, but was still ending up with a horribly tight edge. Ack. You know, it’s a real pain to tink bound off stitches. Luckily I didn’t do too many of them before testing the stretchiness of the edge. I reverted to the tried and true crochet bind off and got a nice edge, though it took quite a bit longer to do it that way. Worth it in the end.
After all that I took a couple photos of the unblocked scarf, as well as one of it soaking in the sink.

After that, it got laid out on the bed to be blocked. I was going to take the sheet off the bed and block it to the mattress pad, then realized that those stripes would work in my favor. Choosing some
to pin between, I got going.
And promptly ran out of pins.
I pulled out the pins I usually use just for sewing projects, and used all those up, too. Dave? Do you have any straight pins? No. He suggested a couple places for me to look. Oh! That’s right. I have his mother’s sewing basket. There must be pins in there. Jackpot.
For once I was kind of glad it was cold in the house… It took longer for the scarf to dry. Time that I needed. It took eons—and hundreds of pins—to block out the scarf. But I did it. Before I was done I was wishing I had a set of blocking wires. My knees and my back also wished I had a set of blocking wires, I’m telling you.

The only things left to do before my aunt and uncle get here tomorrow is weave in the ends on the scarf, and wrap it up.
Well, the only things left to do to the scarf. Gack!
I’ll leave you with a photo of this morning’s view. The Santa Ana winds kicked up again last night, and the result is a beautiful sky. And lots of sneezing.

P.S. On another note, I saw this morning that I got an honorable mention in Yarnival Issue 4 for my Mountain Peaks Lace Shawl. See the reference to the “overtly sexy shawls-on-chairs category.” Woohoo! It’s so fun to see links to my blog on other blogs. Thank you! I definitely need to go back and read that whole Yarnival post. It looks like there’s some terrific knitting reference there.

That scarf turned out absolutely gorgeous! She’s going to LOVE it (and if she doesn’t .. I may know someone who would like it).
Congrats on the Yarnival mention for your shawl! It’s so beautiful though I think it should have been mentioned in BOLD FACE TYPE!
