That was fast

Wow. Where did 2006 go? That was fast.

I’m beginning to see what Grandma meant when she described how quickly the years were going by for her. When I was about twenty years old I got to see my paternal grandmother about once a week all summer long. I loved it. She was marvelous. I treasure that time I had with her. She was one of my all-time favorite people. When I was twenty, Grandma was eighty-four. One day I was at her house to pick her up for her weekly drive and grocery store run, when we were talking about what year it was. Grandma was amazed. Where has the time gone? Then she demonstrated how quickly the years were going by for her. She walked around in a tiny circle on the floor, a circle barely larger than one you’d make by standing in one spot and simply turning around. That is how long a year took for her. Being only twenty I had no real frame of reference. Sure, the years were going by faster than they did when I was in grade school, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. I was all, “Yeah, Grandma. Okay. Let’s go out now.” Bah. Now that I’m in my forties, I’m beginning to see what Grandma was talking about. Yowza.

As to resolutions… The only new year’s resolution that I ever kept, after years and years of making them was when I resolved to never make another new year’s resolution. Yup. That one I kept. It’s probably been about twenty years now, and I’m holding strong. The result? No lists of previous years’ resolutions for you to read, no lists of failures nor of successes, none of that stuff. Makes for boring blogging, but much better living. For me, anyway.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun new year’s celebration, and that you all have a fabulous 2007.
