I don’t know yet if this toe-up
thing is working for me. Oh, the mechanics of the knitting are fine. But look at this. Look how narrow the sock toe is compared with my foot.
In true knitterly fashion, I’m going to soldier on—for the time being—and continue knitting.
I’m thinking maybe one more increase row, and then move on to the foot stitches. We’ll see.
I’ve been moving right along on the scarf for my uncle.
It is amazingly difficult to take a photograph of something this dark that allows you to see the texture of the garment. I was doing my best to stand out of the light, so I had my arms fully extended, and the night feature enabled, which leaves the shutter open longer. This makes it really easy to get a blurry photograph. Really easy. Especially with the arms out like that. And you still can’t really see anything. Trust me. There are cables there. And garter stitch. Honest.
On another note, I got the dickey blocked. It turned out rather well, if I do say so myself. It even fits him. Well, it did before it was blocked, and it looks pretty much the same size, so I’m sure it still does.

- Pattern: Side-to-Side Dickey by HeartStrings FiberArts
- Yarn: Knit Picks Andean Treasure, 100% baby alpaca in Mystery (gray)
- Needles: Addi Turbo circulars in US size 5, 6, and 7
- Notes: The pattern is knit from one shoulder across the front of the chest, then the back of the chest, where the stitches are put back together and the second shoulder is knit. Stitches are then picked up for the collar and knit in the round. Interesting! It was fun to watch it progress from stage to stage. If I’d been able to knit it all at once instead of sneaking around and knitting it in fits and starts, it wouldn’t have taken very long at all. As it was, it still only took a month.
- When I picked up the stitches for the turtleneck, I knit the first row instead of doing it in rib, starting the two-by-two rib pattern on the next row. I didn’t quite get gauge, so the neck looked a little big around. I decreased two stitches on two rows, for a total of four decreased stitches. You can see them there in the last photo. I’m glad I made that little change. The neck fits Dave perfectly, so it was worth it.
Tempting
But no. Not now. I just bought stitch markers. But you might want some of these. I was reading Anne’s blog last night, and saw her post about the stitch markers Aija makes. They’re gorgeous. And they’re inexpensive. Look at all those lovely colors of pearls. Oooh. I wouldn’t mind wearing some of those as earrings!

I’ve only done toe up socks once(the Stashbuster Spiral from the Six Sox KAL) and they fit great, but I do remember they were really awkward in the beginning. I love the colorway you’re using and I’m sure they will turn out great; just don’t give up :)

It looks like (from what I can tell) your socks are going to be just fine. How many stitches do you have, what’s your needle size & what size shoe do you wear? Personally for me, I wear a size 8 shoe, I use size 1 needles & for most patterns I need 64 stitches. …. if that helps.
The dickie turned out very nice & the scarf “looks” as if it’s coming along nicely. Don’t you just HATE photographing the dark items? Normally I cheat & use a flash. You don’t get the true colors, but you can see the stitch patterns better that way.
