One sock down

Success! I’ve finished my first ever toe up sock. Ta da! Toe up 1 sock done 2007-01-25

As I approached the top edge of the sock I contemplated different cast-off methods I know. Hm. They’re all pretty tight except for the single crochet cast off, so I used that. It explains the slight flaring at the top edge of the cuff. I think I can live with it. I tried it on, and it seems to fit fine, so I’ll start the second sock soon. Very soon! But probably not today.

I know.

That breaks all sort of sock knitting rules, but I’m busy today.

I’ve been pretty busy all week, actually. Not sure doing what, precisely, but all week I’ve felt like a chicken running around with its head cut off. Ick.

One thing I was busy doing yesterday, though, was distinctly pleasant. Mom called the day before and informed me that Coldwater Creek was having a marvelous sale, trying to unload last season’s clothes. I couldn’t go on Tuesday, so I went yesterday afternoon. Blue floral skirt

See this lovely blue-floral skirt? Yup. Got one. The colors are darker, richer in real life. It’s cut on the bias, hangs like a dream, flares nicely when spinning (I checked), and is self-lined with a nice navy fabric. It was on sale. I love sales. It was a $119 skirt, and it was on sale for $49. Cool, huh? Mom wanted to get me jeans, too, so I also found a pair of those. The two items put me over the $100 limit to get $25 off my entire purchase. This lovely skirt ended up costing only $38. It’s pretty hard to argue with that. Especially when Mom’s buying. Especially when it goes with all sorts of items already in my wardrobe. And the navy-tweed yarn I also bought yesterday.

Didn’t I tell you about that? Rowanspun DK - color 751 drizzle

For quite a number of years now—with rare exception—the yarn buying rule has been if it’s not purchased with gift money, something has to be sold from the stash first to justify it. And yesterday my auction closed for the petunia Rowan cotton glace. Lovely yarn, but just not me. I wanted to replace it with a different Rowan yarn. I found some. Oooh, can’t wait for it to get here. I ordered ten hanks of navy (Drizzle) Rowanspun DK.

It’ll go with the skirt.

Tee hee.

HOORAY! Sock success!! I knew you could do it! I too have trouble deciding which cast off method to do on toe-up socks & I’ve not yet found one I really love.

$38 for a LINED skirt? WOW!! And how perfect is it that your yarn goes with the skirt? So .. what pattern do you have in mind for your yarn?

Hey, that’s a great deal! Really great when you pair it with the yarn. Plus, you are being good about your yarn acquisitions. I’m impressed! ;)
