Knitterly things
I was perusing blogs on Friday morning, when I saw that Kim had a post about Project Spectrum 2. My immediate response was twofold: 1. Glad it’s happening again; it was fun watching everyone else last year, and 2. Doubt that I’d participate. But then I went and looked at Lolly’s post about it, and she’s organized it differently than last year. I might decide to participate after all. We’ll see. Haven’t had much time to think about it yet.
Later the same morning—I can’t believe how behind I am—I was reading Cheryl’s blog and buried in a post she mentioned something about Jessica’s
shawl progress calculator. I had to go look. Hm. Interesting. Very interesting. It’s an Excel spreadsheet where you enter your shawl’s information, and you can look up how far you are as a percent of the total. Very clever. Some people are way good at math.
Kristie and I have discovered that we live fairly close to one another, so we decided to meet at a local yarn shop this week. I’m totally excited. I have high hopes that we hit it off in person as well as we have online. We’ll be meeting after lunch at one of my favorite yarn stores, the one where I have a store credit… I’m hoping I’ll be able to use up some of that credit buying lace weight yarn for a new shawl. I finally figured out which shawl I want to knit first from Victorian Lace Today. The Melon Shawl. It’s sooo pretty. One major factor is that with only minor exceptions,
the reverse side is just purl stitches, easy to execute, especially with dark colored yarns. And since I want to make a black shawl, it seems the perfect place to start. Since I have that finally figured out, I decided to join the Victoria Lace Knit Along. I’ll be posting there after I get my yarn.
My Nodding Violets yarn arrived from Blue Moon on Saturday. Oh. My. It’s gorgeous. I love it. I have the pattern all picked out. I’ve long loved how the feather and fan pattern looks on socks, but have yet to try it, so that’s what I’m going to do.

The two ends of the skein have different shades… One end closely resembles the photograph on Blue Moon’s page, the other end is more blue than lavender, and the green is more yellow. I have to admit to having been disappointed at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it. And it smells good, so who am I to argue? It’s going to make fabulous feather and fan socks. Fabulous.
No progress was made on the afghan all weekend, in spite of my good intentions to do otherwise. But you can see where I left off on Friday evening. I’m planning on getting a good bit of knitting in this evening.
I did, however, except for weaving in the ends, finish up my first toe up socks. I’ll give you pictures when they’re officially done… hopefully tomorrow.
Book things
Deb and I were talking a week or two ago, both of us excited about the final chapter of Rowling’s Harry Potter series finally being published in July. She mentioned how she likes to re-read all the books in the weeks preceding the release of the latest one. She reads them one per week, always starting on Saturday. I really liked that idea, and it started my mind to blurring. I did what any
mind-blurring person would do, and started a Harry Potter read along. Participants will read one Harry Potter book per week, starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on June 9, 2007. We’ll be all caught up and ready to go by the time Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows is on store shelves on July 21, 2007. There are a number of members, but so far I’m the only one who’s posted. Sound like fun? Join us!

Oh .. I’m so glad that you’re excited to meet because SO AM I! I’ve never met anyone through online connections before AND I’ve also never met a fellow knitter, so this will be fun. (I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous though). I especially love that you have yarn you need to find for a project… this will be fun!
Aren’t you glad I enabled you into buying that yarn? IT LOOKS YUMMY!! I can’t wait to see the socks you’re gong to knit.. ooohhhh!

Isn’t that shawl progress thing cool? I’m glad other people are better at math than me. There’s no way I would have been able to figure that out on my own.

Can I join the HP read-a-long please? Such a good idea!
