Joy!

African violet 2007-03-15

There are tons of buds hiding down below the leaves, too.

As planned, Kristie came over after lunch yesterday, and we played with yarn and drank tea. I’m a horrible blogger, though. I had my camera sitting there on the coffee table all afternoon, and never took one picture. I guess I was just too excited seeing all of Kristie’s wonderful socks and fabulous yarn.

I almost got my feather and fan socks done before she got here, but not quite. They would have been done, but I pulled the toe out of the first sock. Can you believe it? After all I went through on that first sock, it was still too short. Oh well. Good thing it’s just knitting, and easy to fix. I’ll post a picture later, when the sock’s all done and the ends are woven in. Melon shawl 2007-03-15 1

I do have a couple knitting pictures for you. My Melon shawl is progressing quite nicely. As you can see, I finished up the center panel’s sixty-two repeats, and have started the border. Had a false start on it, messed it up at first, got myself confused. The nice thing about attaching a border this way is that I was able to simply pull out the stitches, pick up the loops from the crochet chain again, and restart without any real hassle, no worries of tearing out parts I didn’t want to, dropping stitches I didn’t mean to, any of that.

The other picture I took, the one showing how much of the border is now done, is over at the Victorian Lace KAL. You’ll just have to go over there to visit, if you want to see it. Barbara Walker Treasury Project

Have you heard about the Barbara Walker Treasury Project yet? Fabulous idea. Here’s the description from the project’s sidebar:

Every knitter knows that Barbara Walker’s Treasuries are indispensable. We use them constantly for designing, for help with a difficult pattern, and for pure inspiration. Sometimes, though, the mostly black-and-white and small pictures keep us from seeing the full potential of a pattern. That’s where the Walker Treasury Project comes in. We’re gathering high quality, color photos of all the patterns in all the Treasury books (including Mosaic Knitting) and putting them on the Internet as a visual aide to this wonderful collection. Help your fellow knitter by choosing a pattern from a particular book, working up a nice big swatch in a light-colored yarn, and posting it to our blog. We can help you label and categorize everything. Also, keep in mind that we’re not posting the pattern, just the picture!

Yes, I joined. How could I not? I’ve promised to knit at least one swatch from her Treasury of Knitting Patterns book. At least one. I have it all picked out, though I don’t know what yarn I’m going to use yet. I’ll post here when I get my swatch done, so you can go visit it. In the meantime, go see what’s going on over there. It’s fabulous. I love seeing the swatches in living color.

You’re not a horrible blogger, I just think our brains shut off due to all the gorgeous items that surrounded us, especially your sweaters!

If only I had a Barbara Walker book, I’d join you. I think it’s a great project and I can’t wait to see what you knit up for it.
