I know. It’s backwards. I didn’t like the shape.

I think what I need to do is to make a bunch of increases just down from the ribbing, then ease the bag out a little wider to its maximum width over the next number of rows.

By the way, my swatch lied. It promised me eleven stitches to four inches, when actually I got twelve. Threw everything off.

Melon shawl

On a happier knitting note, I rounded the second corner on the Melon shawl last night, and started up the second long side. I’ll take a picture or two for you when it’s lighter out. The clouds out there are thick, heavy, and dark, making it unrealistic lighting for photographing black yarn.

Plantings

Thyme 2007-03-19
On Saturday we buzzed by Lowe’s for a bit, and I picked up a couple more plants for my deck: a cute little thyme plant, and a trio of lemon cucumbers (here’s another shot of it “in the wild“). Yum. They got planted in their new homes on Saturday afternoon.

I bought some lemon cucumbers from my farmer’s market last year and they were tasty! Light and refreshing, even more so than regular cucumbers :)

Funny you mentioned the lemon cucumbers Laura, we got our seed order today, and of couse, a packet of lemon cukes were in there (along with 1.5 LBS of pumpkin seeds). We love them, my DH gets the burps from regular cukes the lemons don’t do that to him.

I see what you mean about the bag. Love the yarn you are using.

Swatches lie? I’ll tell you the “secrets” I learned about swatches.

-Always knit at least a 4×4 swatch.
-Always “wash” it in the way the finished garment will be washed and then block it.
-Always take at least 3 measurements of your swatch in 3 different parts of your swatch (middle, sides, top, bottom) and avoid the edges.

Add the stitch totals for each section you measured together, divide by how many total inches you measured, and voila, you have your gauge.

    Clear as mud?
