Interview March 27, 2007
In reading blogs this morning, I saw that Miriam had asked for and answered some interview questions. I had fun reading the links back through other people’s blogs, so asked Miriam for some questions. Here’s what she wants to know about me.
1. What is your favorite food?
My favorite food varies from day to day, by time of year, by mood… But if I had to choose one stand out, I’d-shrivel-up-and-die-if-I-thought-I’d-never-eat-it-again food, it would be good, crusty, sour dough bread.
2. What do you like most about living in California?
I’ve lived in California my whole life, so have nothing to compare it to. I’d say I like living here because I’m near my family, but though they all live in California—except my second cousins in Iowa—the closest relative is 400 miles away. I’d say it’s the weather, but I detest the weather here in southern California—not enough variety. I’d say it’s the ocean, but I almost never go see it. I’d say it’s the mountains, but at best, I normally only see them from a distance. I’d say it’s the wonderful variety of foods grown here, but more small farms in this area disappear every year. Okay. Here’s one thing I’ve always liked about this state: the variety. Whether you like mountains, winter skiing, summer boating, playing at the beach, surfing, SCUBA diving, wide plains, farming, city life, sprawling suburbs, technology, film, plays, ballet, symphony, or small towns, rural life, rivers, year-round sun, snow, rain, pea-soup fog, just come to California. It’s here.
3. What is your favorite recipe for preserves?
I had a feeling you were going to ask something like this! Here’s one that I love during the holidays: cranberry sauce.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
12 oz cranberries, fresh or frozen
Dissolve the sugar in the water, bring to a boil. Add the berries. Return mixture to a boil. Boil 10 minutes, stirring once in a while. At this point I usually put a screen over the pot to let the heat out, and keep the red from the bursting cranberries contained as much as possible. Remove from heat. Let cool. Eat.
4. If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?
At this precise moment in time, I’d love to be a pampered house cat. Why? I could wander away and take a nap elsewhere in the house whenever vacuuming was being done. By someone else.
5. What is your comfort food?
Macaroni and cheese.
Thanks, Miriam! If you want to play, too, leave a note for me by commenting to this post, and I’ll see what I can do about coming up with some for you.

Sure, I can always use some blog fodder. Go ahead and try to ask me some questions that I haven’t answered before. :)
