Where do you do most of your reading? Your favorite spot? (And yes, I understand that these might not be the same thing–your favorite spot could be the beach, but you do most of your reading at home… in which case, tell me about both!)

There’s a place at San Francisco’s Embarcadero Center—in the area downtown that used to be called the Barbary Coast—a raised walkway with big stone benches along the sides, huge potted plants between the benches, with a view of the clock tower on the Ferry Building. That is my favorite place to read. I read there at lunch all the time when I worked downtown. I’d read there on sunny, warm days, foggy days, windy days, rainy days between showers, it didn’t matter. It’s a wonderful spot.

Obviously, since I no longer live and work in San Francisco, I don’t read there any more. Instead, I read at home, all over the house, at the breakfast table, in the bathroom, in bed, at my desk, on the couch, in the library, on the stairs, anywhere and everywhere.

On March 15 Danielle wanted to know:

If you had $500 to spend on stitching-related items, what would you buy?

Yarn. Lots of yarn. Probably a bunch of Rowan yarn for a couple sweaters, plus some nice shawl yarn, sock yarn… But probably not a bit on stitching stuff. Unless I needed a couple colors of DMC, but that would be about it.

Then today Cindy asked:

Do you have a system for organizing freebie charts in your stash? If so, what is it? Do you print out copies of all of the freebies that you find on the web (that you think you might actually stitch) or do you maintain electronic copies of them until you are ready to stitch them?

I don’t collect or stitch free cross stitch patterns. I’ve even stopped bothering to look at them, as I rarely think they’re worth the trouble, with the exception of Teresa Wentzler’s freebies. I love TW’s designs, free or not, even stitched Stretch about a million years ago.

I love Stretch. I really want to stitch that one sometime.
