Painting, knitting, stitching

Going to visit Captain Steve on the Matsonia wasn’t the only thing we did on Friday. Ravages of dinner

We also helped a friend paint the inside of her new store. There were six of us total. We ate, we drank, we painted (not necessarily in that order), and we had much fun. Troy brought the burritos from a favored taco stand in Long Beach. And boy, were they good. None of us thought we’d be able to finish the huge burritos, but we all did. Some of the tacos even disappeared.

Ron works for a wine distributor, so often has open bottles left over from tastings during the day. He brought some. I know. It was horrible, but someone has to empty the bottles. We wouldn’t want the wine to go do waste, would we? You see here the back of a bottle of Pinot Noir from Tasmanian Pinot NoirTasmania. The real surprise—to Dave and I, anyway—was the fabulous bottle of Pinot Tage. The first time we tried this wine, years ago, different winery, I couldn’t get past the barnyard smell to actually taste the stuff. Yes, full barnyard. I’ll leave it to your imagination. And yes, that’s a normal characteristic of this grape. This Pinot Tage, however, was fabulous. This time we had Ron’s favorite Pinot Tage, and I could see why he liked it so much. Fabulous, darling. Simply fabulous. Bigger room

Rachel’s new retail space has two rooms. A large one up front that she’ll be sharing with her next door neighbor, and a good size office/work room in back. Here we’re looking from the back room toward the front of the store. Two walls out front are that blue you see, and the other two walls are a truly brilliant green. The back room will be mostly white, so Rachel can choose colors more easily. Ron, Rachel, Troy

Here you can see Ron working on the tiny bathroom floor. He tiled it the other day, and got the grouting done while we were there Friday. Yes, Troy’s wearing scrubs. He’s a doctor. He does that sort of thing. The question we all had, though, was why didn’t he change before he came over? Rachel’s the one coming down the ladder.

See that ledge above Ron? Dave climbed up there later on and painted the walls back there. It looks so much better now that it’s all white, like the rest of the room. Conwy 2007-04-09

Conwy

Since I’m not currently knitting anything else, I’m making grand progress on the Conwy sock. This Cherry Tree Hill yarn is loverly. So, so soft. The colors are fun, and aren’t pooling one little bit. As you can see, I’ve turned the heel, finished up the gussets, and am heading toward the toe. I think the yarn color is coming off a little on my needles… They seem to have a slight greenish-blue tint that they didn’t used to have. Haven’t noticed anything on my hands, though.

Sock yarn

The sock yarn I ordered from The Loopy Ewe arrived on Thursday. I love the Panda Cotton. Can’t believe how soft it is. I’m planning on Sock yarnmaking some little, summery socks with it. The Wild Cherry sock yarn from Cherry Tree Hill, though, I’m disappointed in. I wanted a nice red yarn, as it was described and pictured on the site, red, maroon, burgundy. The yarn that came is pink, pink, pink, and purple. I don’t want pink socks. I want red ones. I’ve been in touch with Sheri. She got back to me right away. I’ll send this yarn back, and she’ll replace it for me. Yippee!

Stepsisters

Progress is also being made on the stitching front. I’ve completed page four, and will be starting on page five at lunch today. Weee! I wish you could see the depth of color in this thing. The dark part of the petals looks almost like velvet. Loverly.

Okay, before I forget- What is a gusset? Hubby and I got stumbled into that after I bought him a new pillow (new pillows are a huge deal in this house, sort of a Three Bears kind of thing. This one’s too soft, this one’s too…..) It stated on the package that it had a 3inch gusset. We have no idea what that means!

Isn’t painting fun? I love it. Maybe once I decide what colors here…..

And the stepsisters are so loverly. *sigh. You are doing a wonderful job! Could just reach right through and touch them!

You had quite the event-filled weekend! Remind me never to let you take photos when I’m around though. Although I’m sure Rachel doesn’t mind a shot of her butt on your blog, I think I’d DIE!!

So what do you think of the Cherry Tree Hill compared to Socks that Rock? That colorway looks divine. From what I can tell, the Panda Cotton looks heavenly, but the Wild Cherry colorway is horrible! Good thing Sherry will swap it out for you though. You can’t beat that great customer service.

I think I can see the depth of colour in that stitchwork. I love the colours in pansies and I think your work is really capturing that beauty. Gorgeous.

Oh, and when you’re finished with Dave can I have him? A wine distributor employee would be most welcome at our place..!
