The beast: home!

It’s home. Came home on Monday, actually, but I had other things to blog about then. As a reminder, this is what it used to look like. Here it is now. The beast returns 17And, because I took the pictures of it returning, I thought I’d share. While two men removed the couch, there were three to return it. And a good thing it was, too. I told you it’s heavy! Even the cushions are heavy.

The new fabric has a slight sheen to it. Those aren’t bands of color, just reflection. It’s very blue, with a slight purple tint to it. I think Dave likes it. I know I do. It sure feels different to sit on than it used to. You used to sink way into it, then get poked by wayward springs. All the springs were either retied or outright replaced in the body of the couch and in both cushions. Yes, my cushions have big springs in them. He did a beautiful job of matching the pattern from one surface to another, and you should see the ends of the arms. Gorgeous. And that little spot under the cushion where the lining fabric meets the outside fabric… You know the spot. Go look on your own couch. I’ll wait. He put button like things to hold it down, each beautifully covered with the blue fabric. There’s an extra piece of wood going along the front, behind the fabric, for support so if you sit on the edge of the couch you don’t sink to the floor. That’s new, too.

What with the retied springs and new batting and everything, the couch is a lot firmer than it used to be. That’ll take some getting used to. It’s nice, though. I used to get a horrible backache when I sat too long in that hole of couch. Now I shouldn’t.

The upholsterer didn’t order enough fabric to make the three pillows and arm covers that I wanted, so that fabric is on order. He expects to have these done and here by the weekend. Then he’ll collect the fee. I thought that was more than reasonable, especially since I didn’t have to pay a deposit at all.

It’s nice to have my old couch home again. Even though he doesn’t look the same, his spirit is the same. I think Grandma would approve.

Looks like quite the feat moving “the beast” back into the house. It’s absolutely beautiful and I’m glad you’re pleased with the finished results.
