Progress May 7, 2007
I may not have said anything for a few days (or so) about the green shawl, but I have been knitting away at it. I’ve
completed 88 rows so far, and I think I’m finally getting into the swing of things. Since the faggoting changes directions at the midpoint in the shawl, as well as being different on the back than on the front, I wrote those instructions out, big as life, on the sides of my working copy of the chart. I enlarged the chart when I copied it, but it’s still rather small, and can be a bit confusing. Having those few stitches written out, in a spot that’s super easy to see, has helped speed up the knitting tremendously.Yea!
As you can see, I had a furry helper this morning casting a shadow over my knitting when I was trying to take a picture of it for you.
We went to visit some friends on Saturday evening, and I took my sock
along. Made good progress on the foot, too. Though the ankle is a bit loose, the foot is fitting perfectly. This morning I googled forget-me-not, and found a couple lovely pictures in the public domain. I liked this one best. Alas, I’d forgotten that the forget-me-not is a five-petaled flower. Oh well. I’m still going to name my socks after them. After all, the color is perfect.
Earlier in the week I got a few more new plants stuck into pots on the deck. You can see most of the new additions in the photo on the left. There’s a trio of yellow bell peppers and a pot of brilliant red petunias. To the right of the petunias is a pot with a tiny pink impatien plant in it. The things already there have been growing by leaps and bounds, especially the cucumbers. I have actual flowers on my cucumber now. I hope they all get pollinated so I get lots of fruit. On the far right you can see how wonderfully my baby marigolds are doing. It’s high time I got those little guys in the ground out front. I’m hoping that the cheeky little gopher we have out there won’t like them. Keep your fingers crossed.

Laura, that is the perfect blue so I wouldn’t worry about the 4 vs 5 petals.
I’ve only had to deal with moles and shrews in my gardens, though I’ve leved in gopher territory. I had a cat who was afearless hunter and would track them down. She’d bring mice and the shrews to the door as offerings, but apparently the moles were so mean and nasty that she just left them where they died. I saw her battle them more than once, so I agreed.
That’s a Maigret I haven’t read. How many hundreds did he write?

88 rows already? Wow! I dropped a few stitches (and dropped a few choice words) yesterday and still haven’t figured out how to pick them back up. I may have to rip out 10 rows back to the lifeline but since there are SO MANY stitches now, I’m doing everything in my power not to need to do that. Thankfully I have a lifeline to rip back to though.
I think the forget-me-not name is perfect even if your sock has 4 petals. I’m sure nobody but you and your blog readers will even ever realize it.
Your patio is starting to look very colorful!

That really is the perfect color for a forget-me-not namesake. Wow! I had never seen one of those flowers before, actually. It’s beautiful. And all of your plants look lovely! I like this time of year. :)
