May 15 Yarnival! May 15, 2007
Welcome to the May 15, 2007 edition of Yarnival!. Getting the submissions last month was an interesting experience. I wouldn’t get one for days, then suddenly three or four would pop into my inbox within an hour or two. I even got a submission that was
complete and total spam, so I’m not going to include it. I don’t want you to waste your time on it, like I did. Ick. It was totally off topic, like spam generally is, strange, and vulgar. Like I said: ick. Anyway, enough of that. On to the real submissions!
Issues
Betty explains how not getting gauge is sometimes beneficial. Sara wants to know how much is too much when you’re buying yarn, and what kinds of considerations you go through in making your yarn choice for a new sweater. Kristy shows us that knitting for your boyfriend isn’t always a relationship’s kiss of death.
How to
Kim shares Casey’s inventive way of getting more life out of an old pair of flip-flops. Niki shows us how to handpaint yarn with Kool-Aid. Jen shares how she knit a very clever button band.
Socks
Kristie gets ribbed for knitting socks. Anastacia knit three pairs of adult-sized socks in a week; this last pair is gorgeous. Kim and Stacey both submitted this post for an incredible pair of knee high socks. Miss T has a unique way of measuring feet for socks.
Sidelines
Tara shows us how the yarn itself is art. Michelle’s infant son didn’t appreciate the bunny outfit she knit for him. But it’s so cute! Nancy wishes she could thank someone no longer in her life for the wonderful hand-knit sweater she received as a gift. Karen Jo waxes nostalgic, and compares knitting in the 1970s with knitting now. Lethe shares Knitting on Impulse: Playing With Colour part 1 saying, “A novel way of thinking and deciding about color in knitting, in [the first of] a series of four postings.”
Humor
Read about Leigh’s troubles with a stash pixie. Hannah’s incomplete pi shawl does double duty as a market bag? Those baby booties Dr. B. wants to knit are adorable, but…
Sewing
I’m not sure what sewing a skirt has to do with yarn, but Connie made a nice one.
Noteworthy
Kim shared Amy’s chair-sized knit glove. Wow.
That concludes this edition of Yarnival! Submit your blog article to the next edition using the carnival submission form.

Thanks for having a great carnival, and thanks for including me as well! I’m so proud of that pair of socks, too :) (as a matter of fact, I’m wearing them again today! You’d think I didn’t have any other socks to wear)

I’m so sorry about the car post. Someone else, without my knowledge, submitted it for the last yarnival. I thought I had communicated that to you and sent an alternative submission. Did you not get it?
