Ouch

There’s this molar. The one all the way in the back, lower left. It’s been a little finicky for a while. You know. A little sensitive to heat and cold. Some days more than others. I knew that I’d have to get it taken care of before too long, but as such things go, I decided that I could wait. Over the weekend my tooth decided that it didn’t want to wait any longer, and a full-blown, very painful, all the time, waking-me-up-in-the-night-painful infection was born. I made some calls. Yesterday morning I finally found a dentist that’s reasonably close to me through 1-800-Dentist. The gal at the service was great. She found the dentist, told me a bit about him, called the office, connected me, and an appointment was made. For yesterday afternoon! I went. He drilled. Packed it with temporary stuff, and sent me home with a prescription to kill the infection. I’m due back first thing Wednesday morning for the next step. I’m already feeling better. Still a bit sore, but better. Way better, actually. I’m definitely looking forward to having this taken care of, and to have an end to the pain.

Knitting

I haven’t finished the latest pair of socks (not even done with sock 2, and I need to re-knit sock 1 on smaller needles when I’m done), nor the green shawl, but I have projects lined up up the yin-yang. And I officially added not just one, but two more projects to my list just today. Yes, two more projects.

First off, Kristie and I met at Velona this morning, not long after they opened for the day. She returned some unused baby yarn for a store credit, then promptly used it up by getting a ball of Rowan Calmer in a gorgeous shade, and the Fiber Trends felted slipper pattern. Sweatshirt Sweater yarn

Me? I got a hank of red yarn—there’s no label on it, but because of where it was we’re pretty sure that the red is Brown Sheep’s Lamb’s Pride worsted—to knit at the cuffs and hems of my dark gray Sweatshirt Sweater that I haven’t started yet. The gauge is a little different than the gray (Katia’s Baltika), but I’ll be able to make it work somehow, by doing more (or fewer) stitches or doubling the yarn, or something. The color combination is fabulous. The yarn gauge is a little different than the pattern, so I’m going to have to do some math anyway. I figure that a little more math won’t hurt me. Too much. Yarn for Clapotis

I also got two balls of Rowan’s stunning Tapestry yarn so I can knit my own Clapotis. Really, Kristie? Just two balls? If you haven’t seen it, go check out Kristie’s Clapotis. It’s even prettier in person. And she says she knit it with just two balls of this yarn. Yum. Well, if it turns out not to be enough for Clapotis, I’ll find something else yummy to make with these two balls of yarn.

As is always the case when I get together with Kristie, I had a ton of fun. It’s so nice to have a knitting friend. Here. Someone I can see in person! You’re the bomb, Kristie. And I’m not just saying that because you bought me lunch. But that didn’t hurt. Which, today, is saying something!

Travel

One of the gals on my stitching board found this map thing. It’s cool. You check off the countries that you’ve been to, it creates a map showing the countries you’ve visited in a different color, and telling you what percentage of the world’s countries you’ve seen. I love it.

As you can see, except for the U.S., if you’ve been to, say, a small corner of Canada, like I have, then it marks the whole country. It’s a little deceiving. But then, there are a few countries I’ve been to that are so small they hardly show up on this map, so I guess it averages out.

Create your own map.

As you can see, I’ve gotten around a little bit. I’m hoping, some day, to see a lot more of the world. A lot more. I think I inherited my great-aunt’s travel gene. She went all over the world, I’m sure she saw considerably more than 50 percent of the world’s countries in her day, and had some great stories about her trips.

Ouch is right!! I have to go next Wednesday and have my bottom left (second one in from the back) molar pulled!! It has so much infection that it has a pocket and the root is exposed. I feel your pain. Literally. I’m so glad you have a knitting friend, there. I wish I had one here. My friends just want stuff, they don’t want to learn for themselves. I’ve only been to Canada and the US, no sense in me doing the map thing. I would like to do one of the US though, that might be fun. Have a great day Laura.

Oh Boy! I didn’t say Clapotis did I? I thought I said the Argosy. Unfortunately they sound the same and since they are both from Knitty.com, that makes it even more confusting. I knit the Clapotis with the Brooks Farm FourPlay yarn and the Argosy with the Rowan Tapestry. If I said Clapotis I am SOOO sorry. Maybe I was just overwhelmed with all the yarn. yikes!

What a cool thing! I had no idea there was an 800 number for dentists. When we did our annual trip to Phoenix last Feb. I had a similar situation. I knew the tooth was singing its final aria but it wasn’t quite there yet (and I still hoped it would heal up). I was in some pretty remote places worrying that I was going to need a root canal and the nearest town had a population of 50! I’m glad things are healing. Get better soon!
