Book, book, book June 5, 2007
I finished reading Mary Roberts Rinehart’s The Door just a few minutes ago. She had me going until the second to the last sentence. I had no idea who the murderer was. I was totally stumped. It was great! I loved it. Quite fun. I’ll have to see if there are
more of her books around here. I think there must be. With her love of mysteries, I can’t see how my mother-in-law would have missed this wonderful author.
Next up is the next episode of J. J. Marric’s Scotland Yard detective series, the book Gideon’s Badge. I chose this instead of an author that I haven’t read before, as I usually blow through the Gideon books, and I need something that I can finish before Saturday. I’ll get back to the mystery challenge soon.
What happens on Saturday?
Why that’s when
I’m picking up J. K. Rawling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I’ll be reading one HP book per week until the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is released on July 21.
Since I have a book post going anyway, I figured I’d finally answer Deb’s questions for last week’s Booking Through Thursday… ![]()
Do you read e-books? If so, how? On your computer, or a PDA? Or are you a paper purist? Why?
While I’m quite certain that e-books have their proper place in the world, I don’t like them. I started to read one on my Palm years ago, and gave it up after several tries. You know, it’s just not the same, curling up in a comfy chair with a PDA, stretching out in bed with a laptop, getting comfy on the floor in front of the fireplace with a big monitor glaring at you. No. I’m a book purist. A big part of the experience of reading a book is the joy of holding the book itself, the smell of the binding, the pages and ink, especially if it’s a nicely published book, but so long as it’s printed on paper and bound together, that’s the type of reading for me.

I also have HP fever. I’m knitting Potter-themed socks this summer.

I agree with you about books. Computer screens strain my eyes. Give me a good, old-fashioned paper book any day! :)

Do you have your HP pre-ordered or are you going to be standing in the store at midnight on the big day?
I usually re-read the last HP before the new one comes out to refresh my mind on the details. But the ending of the last one is burned in memory. My husband and I debated for days after on where the next book would go.

Have fun with your Harry Potter reread. I’ve just started the third one. I’m watching the movies again too as I go. It was so fun to watch the first one again- they’re so young!
