Market bag: started

As usual, I’m not following the pattern exactly as written. I seem to do that a lot. Hm. This time it’s because I don’t have the Market bag 2007-06-15called-for size 15 knitting needles. The closest I could come is size 13. So, I cast on with those. Since the needles are a little smaller, I also increased the width from 45 to 51 stitches. Seems to be working so far. I have two pattern repeats done, and I’m moving right along. The pattern is super easy to memorize, but there’s enough going on so that it’s not boring. Yet. If I were to make an afghan out of this pattern, I’m sure I’d get bored, but I’m not so…

Haven’t blocked the shawl yet. Waiting for the cable guy to show up to move us off of DSL and back to Internet cable. I’d start on the shawl, but he should be here any time, and I don’t want to have to stop pinning part way through. That would be irritating.

I haven’t mentioned the continuing stream of new patterns from the Berroco newsletters for quite a while. The sweaters have been too boring to note. RuffinaNot horrible—that can be sort of fun—and not great, either. Just. There. For example, this week’s Ruffina is okay. I kind of like it. I dislike cuffed sweaters, though, so would make it with somewhat shorter sleeves. I think I’d want to add some sort of pattern stitch somewhere to add some interest to the thing. Here’s Berroco’s description of it:

Our Ruffina cardigan, knit in Suede, is an update on tradition with draped front shawl collar construction that flatters the curves. Ruffina has a flirty peplum to camouflage the tummy.

That’s all fine and good. But it just doesn’t do a thing for me. Ho hum.

Feeling bookish

Let’s see. A couple bookish things for you. Have you found Book Crossing yet? Dave sent me the link this week. What you do is you “accidentally” forget your book in a public place. Someone else sees it, reads it, follows the link you put in it, enters the info online so you can track the book, then they leave the book somewhere else for another reader to find. Sounds cool. I think I’ll try it.

Another book thing I want to try is BookMooch. It’s a site to use to trade books with people you don’t know.

I’m almost done with Zenna Henderson’s The People: No Different Flesh. If this were an ordinary week I’d scream through the last thirty pages, then find something else to read. But this week I’m dragging my feet, trying to make the book last all day, so I can start the second Harry Potter book for the HP RAL tomorrow.

I’ve belonged to Bookcrossing for a while but haven’t really been active lately. And I keep meaning to try out BookMooch but haven’t gotten around to it yet. One of these days.

Book Crossing looks like a really cool idea. I wish I lived in a more populated area so I knew that the book would get picked up. I’m not even sure what book I would leave. LOL.
