Handsome Triangle: done June 18, 2007
In some ways it feels like I’ve been knitting this shawl forever. In other ways, I can’t believe I’m done already, especially when I see how big it is. I know Dave’s glad I’m done with this one. I guess I complained a lot while knitting it.
- Pattern: A Handsome Triangle, page 32, Victorian Lace Today by Jane Sowerby
- Yarn: Green mystery yarn that I got years ago at a local LYS’s parking lot sale. No tags, no labels, no indication of any sort what it is; laceweight, 188g.
- Needles: Size 7, Knit Picks Options circulars
- Finished size: 102 x 40 inches
- Changes: When looking at the chart I noticed there were large gaps with no lace, where partial lace repeats could be added. I modified the chart to add these partial repeats, and I’m glad I did. I like the resulting shawl a lot better. Also, I changed the
crochet bind off so that the crochet chains are all eight chains long, and there are two single crochet stitches between each chain. - Notes: Boring, boring, boring, boring. This is the second most boring shawl I ever knit (the first most boring shawl being a blue one I made years ago, which I started the night the final Lord of the Rings movie premiered). The tedium of the four-row repeat definitely got to me. Because of that, I was sometimes careless, and messed up the fagoting in a number of places. No, I didn’t go back to fix it. I can see the mistakes when the shawl is spread out, but when the thing is being worn, I don’t think it’ll be obvious at all, and I just wanted this to be done. In spite of all that, I really like the resulting shawl. It’s huge, and the leaf pattern is beautiful.

It may have been a boring knit, but it certainly turned out to be a lovely, frilly-leafed shawl! I’m glad you stuck with it.

Boring, maybe, but very pretty now that it’s done. I bet it will be fun to wear.

Okay, I’m very partial to 2-row repeats. But, then, I’m on about my third lace peice and none is anywhere as big as that shawl.
Is it like graduating from school and realizing something big will not be part of your life anymore? Appropriate this time of year.

Very lovely! Seems like you just started the other day, what’s next?

I’m glad you got it finished because it is very beautiful! I think you were smart to add the partial repeats; it’s much more lacy and pretty that way. I hope you find a more interesting project.

It’s still really nice looking, even if making it was boring. I love the color of the yarn.

Wow, it’s gorgeous, Laura! You did really well. :)

Your shawl is just beautiful; more open and lacier than some I’ve seen. This mystery yarn worked out great for it! Thanks for posting all the pictures and details.

That is SO beautiful! I love the border and the drape… great job!

Oh, pretty! I love the shots of it hanging on the chair.

That is stunning!! I’m trying to decide on the first project to tackle from VLT and this has just jumped way up the queue. I’ll take your ‘boring boring boring’ comments on board though and have something else on the go as well.
And thanks for the tip on filling in the ‘plain’ bits of the chart - I’ll definitely look into that.

That looks absolutely beautiful! You’re making me feel inspired to finish mine, although to be honest with you I haven’t knit in so long (a week) that I’m afraid I’ve forgotten how! LOL ;-)
I can’t wait to see it in person!
