New and old

New

I’ve been working away at the market bag in the evenings. Day before yesterday I finished up the second side, knit the two Market bag 2007-06-20pieces together, and sewed up one side. Yesterday I sewed up the other side, picked up the stitches around the top, knit the band, and bound off all stitches except those that will be used for the strap.

When it’s resting, like in this picture, it is much wider than it is long. However, when I pull on the bottom of it, like when there will be veggies or books or something in it, it’s quite a bit longer than it is wide.

Edited to add a link to the market bag pattern, since I forgot to include it originally. Geesh.

Old

Kristie told me the first time she was here that I should photograph some of my old sweaters and blog about them. Floral sweater 1I had this sweater out anyway, so I decided to do just that.

I made this sweater some time in the mid 1990s. The yarn is from Bergere de France. It’s called Mohair, and is mostly kid mohair with a little bit of acrylic and polyester thrown in for good measure—no, I didn’t remember the synthetics being in there, I broke down and dug out the label. This sweater was featured in their catalog. The yarn was costly, so I bought it a ball or three at a time until I had all the colors. The hard part was saving up to buy the five balls of the background color. This yarn is amazingly soft, and lightweight. And it’s so warm that I’m usually very glad that the sleeves turned out a little short, as I push them up over my elbows most of the time anyway. I still get compliments almost every time I wear this. Floral sweater 2

The buttons are polymer clay and were made by a man named David, who I can no longer find on the Internet. He made fabulous buttons. I mailed him a swatch and a color photograph of the finished color. The buttons are perfect. I love them. I would so buy more buttons from David, if I could find him again.

On a completely different note, a friend shared this this morning, and I had to pass it along.

The Impressionistic flowers seem very appropriate for the French yarn. I’m not surprised you get lots of compliments. It looks like it’s held up well, too. Good yarn is usually worth the price, huh?

Now aren’t you glad you are posting photos on your blogs of your “old” sweaters? Too bad everyone can’t see it in person. It really is gorgeous close-up!!
