Clue one: done July 2, 2007
I think I was speed knitting this weekend. I was so excited about getting started, and about the beads, that I knit, and knit, and knit,
and then I stopped, because I finished the first clue already! I am totally in love with adding beads to knitting this way (with a crochet hook) that I am quite sure this won’t be the end of it. I’m in love with the design so far, too. It’s gorgeous. And fun to knit. I’m super glad I joined the mystery knit along this year! Here it is a little closer.
You’ll have to click on it to zoom in more, and even then you may have trouble seeing the beads. It’s difficult to photograph the little darlings. They are there, though. If you can’t see them yourself, you’ll just have to trust me. They sparkle delightfully, too. And since they’re the peacock beads, each one is slightly different than the next.
The knitting looks a bit of a mess, but that’s just because it hasn’t been blocked at all. It’ll even out. I’d thought briefly about blocking it before taking the pictures, but I changed my mind when I realized how hot it was upstairs (88F). Ick. I took my pictures in the good light, then scampered back downstairs.
Forget-Me-Not
More news on the Crystal Palace front. They’ve linked to my sock pattern! Woot! Check it out: my socks.
Reading
I finished reading Minette Walters’ The Shape of Snakes on Sunday morning—or was it Saturday night? I forget now. Wow. That was a great read. She’s a master of suspense, that one. I love most of her books. So far this one ranks right up there with The Ice House (this was her first book, and it’s stunning), and The Dark Room as my favorites. I do have to admit to not having read everything she’s written at this point, so I may have other favorites as well and I just don’t know it.
I started Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire almost as soon as I was through with The Shape of Snakes. Talk about a different mind set! Just as fun, completely different types of books. I’m still experiencing a bit of a brain tilt as a result. I’d forgotten how much stuff they left out of the beginning of the story when they made the movie. Yeah. Like a hundred pages. I don’t blame them. The movie would be quite a few hours longer if they’d left it all in, but still. A little disconcerting. Maybe that’s part of the reason for my brain tilting so much.

Woo-hoo! Great stuff, lady!

Ah–I remember when my MS3 clue looked like that–right before its untimely demise ;) You could always rip yours out and knit it again–just to relive the joy.
As for Goblet of Fire–as you know the cheater in me read ahead–mostly it’s because I want OotP done before the movie–they left a lot more out than the beginning. There was quite a bit at the end that was different too. I definitely like the books better than the movies–although the movies go by a lot quicker.

I will definitely have to take you at your word that there are beads in that photo.
Looks good so far. Pretty color for a pretty stitch.

That’s great about Crystal Palace! Your MS3 looks great, I finished as well, but then discovered a MISTAKE way in the beginning, but not a deal breaker. Good thing I didn’t try the beads! Too much of a beginner with lace.

I can vaguely make out the beads and I’m still wondering if I made the correct decision in deciding not to have them in my stole. I suppose we’ll see.
Are you as anxious as I am for the next clue? Friday can’t get here fast enough!

Your MS3 looks great! I have finished page one but am waiting to post a pic until the whole clue is complete….definitely by Friday :)

Way Cool, your sock pattern being at Crystal Palace!!! I love those socks Laura you did a great job with that pattern. The shawl is looking fantabulous too.

Clue 1 looks great! You really did knit it fast. Does adding beads with a crochet hook mean that they don’t have to be all strung on the yarn first (in which case I can’t imagine how that works)?
Congratulations on the sock pattern!

Wow, your Clue 1 looks great! I still have to get to the bead store and get some beads, I’m so far behind now!
