Monkeying around July 5, 2007
I hope everyone had a safe and fun Fourth of July. We stayed home. Watched movies most of the day. It was great.
Since I was just sitting there in front of the TV anyway, I spent most of the day knitting. I finished up the first Monkey sock, and got a good start on the second one. I got some stitching done on Winding the Skeins later in the day, too. Nope. No picture. You won’t really see a difference yet from the picture the other day.
I can see why people like these Monkey socks so much. They’re fun to knit! The pattern’s easy to memorize, and you don’t have to do many repeats before the socks are magically finished. I decided to actually follow the pattern for the toe, and graft the end together. It’s… okay. There are little spots on the corners that stick out funny. If it weren’t for that, it’d be fine. (So far) it doesn’t bother me enough to rip it back and re-knit the toe, and the plan is to do the second sock the same way. Maybe I can do a better job of that grafting on the second attempt…
Oh, and if you want to see a different picture of my first completed Monkey sock, wander over to the Summer of Socks Flickr group. I uploaded it there.
I’m practically counting the minutes until the second clue for the mystery shawl is released. Yes, I’m that excited about it. Poor Dave just shakes his head. “Yes, Dear.” Muggles (non-knitting folk) don’t get it. The excitement of a new pattern. The mystery of the unknown. The fun of knitting a project with a bunch of other people.
Mooch
I received my first mooched book the other day, Jane Austin’s Sense and Sensibility. I know. Can you believe it? There are several copies of Pride and Prejudice around here, but we were missing Sense and Sensibility completely. “Were” being the operative word. I finally finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this morning, so went for something totally different and started the Jane Austin book. Come Saturday, I don’t think I’ll have any trouble putting it down so I can start Order of the Phoenix. We’ll see.

The Monkey sock looks perfect in Woodland! You are really getting a lot done quickly.

I’m so glad you like the Monkey pattern. Obviously I do too since I knit it twice. You just can’t go wrong with a good pattern can you?
Do you know specifically when the next MS3 clue releases. I know Melanie said it’s every Friday, but did I miss a post that says what time?

Oh are we twins or WHAT??? I’ve only got to Kitchener the toe of my first Monkey and then I’ll be casting on for my second!
That is seriously too funny!!! The same yarn for MS3 and the same socks!
;)
p.s. are you hungry for pasta tonight for dinner, too?!?!?!?!?!?!???????

Funny! I just reread the last two Harry Potter books to be ready for the last book and the movie (yes, I’ll be seeing it tomorrow *and* the movie is getting good reviews). You have to have all your Jane Austen books. I reread them every few years and if I’m really distressed they help make me think the world is really an okay place.
