New start July 12, 2007
The ennui that suddenly struck the other day is still in attendence, though it lessened considerably when I cast on for a new sweater.
I don’t know that you can see the texture of the yarn properly, even in this close-up. I wish I could get closer in with my camera, but alas, it only has six times magnification. I’m not sure quite what you’d call it. It’s sort of a one-sided chenille, or maybe a short eyelash. It’s from Katia, a long discontinued yarn called Baltika. I got it eons ago on
eBay, and it’s been shouting rather loudly lately. So loudly that in May I took a ball of it over to my LYS to see if she had any left—well, it was worth a try. Kristie helped me to pick out a glorious red yarn that I’ll use near the hem and cuffs of the sweater to stretch out my yardage a bit, while adding a dash of color.
The sweater is knit in the round, top down with raglan shaping. The pattern, HeartString’s Sweatshirt Sweater, calls for a triangular bit at the top center of the sweater, to mimic a sweatshirt. I tried it. With this fuzzy
yarn it didn’t show up at all. I pulled that out, started over, and opted for a simple lace design in that section instead.
In spite of the fact that I’m comfortably knitting this yarn on size eight needles, I’m getting only 3-1/2 stitches per inch. This is perfect. Just what the label said, and what the pattern suggests. Woot!
I was a very bad girl yesterday, and spent way too much time knitting, and not nearly enough time doing the things I should be doing, but I do feel a bit recovered for it. Oh, yes, Dave confirmed my thoughts regarding my lackluster mood on Tuesday—though it was time to fix and eat dinner, I couldn’t have been less interested in food, or anything to do with it. Yup. It’s that time.
By the way, thank you all for your very kind words the other day. They helped considerably!

Very interesting yarn! I think red will go with it well. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Glad you’re feeling better!
