A mystery revealed

Mystery stole 2007-08-03I finally finished up the Mystery Stole clue four late last night, just in time for clue 5 to be revealed this morning. And, ooh. Melanie, girlfriend, you are amazingly creative! I’m sure I’m not saying anything at this point that hasn’t been bandied about the Internet a bunch of times already this morning when I tell you that the theme for this shawl is Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Swan Lake. The second part of the shawl knits up into a wing. This story is one of the great tragedy’s which is why Melanie told us up front that it wouldn’t be appropriate as a wedding shawl. It would be wildly inappropriate, actually.

I’ve knit through row 32 of chart G. The rows are getting fairly long already. There will be a lot of stitches to knit when I get closer to the end of the wing. Good thing I don’t mind. Ooh, this is going to be so pretty!

Oh, and what I thought were flowers turn out to be paw prints for a dance step performed as part of the Dance of the Little Swans—the dance step is called pas de chat or step of the cat making a place for the cat’s paw lace design in this stole.

Melanie, you are one amazingly creative woman. You go, girl.

So wonderfully delicate, Laura. Just wait until this beauty is blocked!

Isn’t it my fault that you thought they were flowers? I think I may have been the one to incorrectly identify that one. Oh well. I’m still glad I decided to join in this KAL. I haven’t started the next clue though. I’m addicted to the Thelonious sock pattern right now.

Thus the suggestion to use black or white for the stole — the white swan or the black swan — though I’m sure it will look good in any color. I look foreward to seeing the whole pattern.

    Beautiful. :)

And it brings back such memories. I studied ballet from age 3 to…I think I finally put away the shoes last spring. So, about two dozen years of dance - including portions from Swan Lake.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the final piece. :)

Your stole is looking fabulous!! I’m jealous; I’m still plugging along in clue 3.
