Oh dear September 10, 2007
Goodness. I didn’t mean to tease you all so much! I thought I’d told you what Anne suggested, but I guess that’s what I get for doing my own
thinking—especially when I’ve been up since 3 am, like I was on Friday when I wrote that post.
Oh yeah. The tip. Before I forget again (I don’t have Friday’s excuse this time). She told me that she sometimes separates motifs with a single row of yarn over/knit two together pairs. That’s what I did, and it worked out quite well, I think. ![]()
Between loads of laundry I got a lot of knitting done on the stole over the weekend. I’m well into the sunspot motif now. There are at least another couple rows of them now, as I took these pictures early on Sunday. I love how the sunspots look unblocked. Here are a few pictures for you, so you can get the general feel of them. Fun, aren’t they?
On Saturday I got this fabulous old knitting pamphlet in the mail from my dear friend, Denise. She’d visited her mother recently, and found this while going through some stuff back home, thought of me, and sent it along. Isn’t it fabulous? It’s from the American Thread Co., book 169. There’s no date in it, but from other stuff I found online, and the look of it, I think it was published in the 1950s. There are sock and mitten patterns, a couple of scarves, a hat. Some patterns are crocheted, but most are knit. Some are truly atrocious, but others are classic and will never completely go away, like the cabled socks—Dave really likes the ones with a single cable doing down the side—and the argyles.
Ricki’s enjoying the break in the weather. It’s lovely out. So nice, that sitting in the sun is a pleasure instead of an impossibility, especially early in the day when the birds are singing and the air is fresh and new.

Ah, I see! That’s the equivalent of giving the motifs room to breath. Very smart.
Oh, and Ricki looks a lot happier (relatively speaking) today.

Thanks for the tip! The sunspots are cool.
Ricki looks like he likes his window (and you need not photograph him watching the birds–he’s busy!).

Those sunspots are sure going to look different when they are blocked! Is that the last motif before you start the border?
Miss Ricki looks so so happy!
