South seas blues

Oh. My. Goodness. I noted an interest in participating in a tea swap over on Ravelry early in the summer. Didn’t hear anything about it for quite a while, then completely forgot it until I got an email message from Christina. Seems we’d been paired a month before, and she hadn’t realized it, either. Goodness. Well, I’m very glad that Christina hadn’t realized it either, and that she didn’t mind things being delayed a bit.

Tea swap

Anyway, I got a package in the mail yesterday. Christina sent along a small tin each of Earl Grey Bravo and Golden Monkey, a little plastic widget for storing a few tea bags so they won’t get damaged in my purse (a perfect green for me, by the way), two samples of this Red Bloom tea that intrigues me no end, and a fabulous hank of Fleece Artist merino in Blue Lagoon. I can’t wait to try the teas, especially the blooming one.

Then there is that sock yarn. Oh. My. I just love it. The colors remind me of a trip Dave and I once took Blue lagoonabout a dozen years ago—18 days away, 12 of which were SCUBA diving on a live-aboard, the rest being recovery and travel time—to the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. The lagoons and waterways were exactly these colors in the sun. When I showed the yarn to Dave at first he thought the green didn’t belong there. I reminded him of the palms overhanging the water. Ah, no, he said, it was the mangroves that overhung the water and reflected their green leaves in the surface. Ah, yes. The yarn is exactly the right color. His eyes got a faraway look as he remembered our fabulous trip.

Thank you so very much, Christina, for the teas, the beautiful yarn, and the trip down memory lane.

Yeah! I’m so glad you like everything! I had a hard time packaging that yarn up to send. It kept wanting to jump back out and get petted some more! I had a great time putting together your package and keep in touch!

Not only is receiving Fleece Artist absolutely wonderful, but she chose a perfect colorway for you. The blooming tea sounds very intriguing, so make sure you take photos of it to blog about when you use it.

What wonderful teas and yarn! How nice to have sock yarn that reminds you of a wonderful vacation! And it will coordinate well with your ocean stole.
