The knitting is done

South Seas progress

The knitting is done. The grafting is done—all thirteen stitches of it. The ends are woven in—though not clipped. It’s laid out on the floor drying. The color in this set of photos is completely wrong. Not a thing I could do to fix it, either. Oh well. That’s what I get for blocking a stole on a dismal gray day in a room at the back of the house with only two incandescent fixtures for light. It’s a nice big area of floor that no one’s going to walk on, and really, given the task at hand, that seemed more important than natural light.

I’ll get better pictures for you when it’s dry. I’ll post all the stats about it at that time, too.

Swift

If you were wondering, no, I haven’t heard back from the swift company since I sent that last reply. I hope that my swift is in the mail, on its way home. Fingers crossed.

Edited to add: I got an email this afternoon. They’ve shipped my swift back by FedEx Ground. I should have it mid week.

Berroco

Aune by Norah GaughanThe latest newsletter from Berroco featured, among other things, an overview of Norah Gaughan’s newest book, Norah Gaughan Volume 1. My absolute favorite project in the book is a skirt, Aune. I’ve always loved the warmth of a knit skirt. I’ve also always loved knit counterpanes, so much so that I bought Knitting Counterpanes by Mary Walker Phillips eons ago. I was still recovering from crocheting the last afghan at the time, so though I read the book cover to cover, I didn’t knit anything from it. Still haven’t, actually. Yet. It’s on the “some day” list. This counterpane skirt might just be a good compromise.

Other favorites in the book number just two: Justina, another skirt, and Anais, a cap-sleeved top. At least I think I really like Anais. It’s hard to say. There’s that nice lace panel at the top of the bodice, and lace cap sleeves. But the model is wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt under it. Why?

Your stole is beautiful. I hope Dave can fix your swift, I’m sure he can, his name is Dave and my hubby, Dave, can fix anything if he tries.

Natural light or no, the design excellence is apparent. So very well done, Laura! I like it an awful lot.
